Kristyn & Alex

Kristyn Rogers was working in Augusta, Georgia for a minor league baseball team when Alex Chaple walked through her door. Alex was a local college student who had just been hired on as an intern for the team. Kristyn – a bubbly, outgoing girl – didn’t know what to think of the quiet, laid-back young man who she chose to refer to as solely “The Intern.” She tortured him and sent him on tough assignments – her favorite of which is the time she made him dress up in a hamburger suit. All the while, she would secretly admit to her friends that she was starting to have feelings for “The Intern.” One night, after a game, Alex gave Kristyn a ride home – the two flirted shamelessly all during the drive. When they arrived at their destination, Alex looked Kristyn straight in the eye and said “We are dating” right before he planted a big ol’ kiss on her. They’ve been together ever since.

Kristyn moved to Atlanta from Augusta, then on to Mobile, Alabama, and finally to Cincinnati, Ohio. Alex remained in Augusta to finish school, but they continued a long-distance relationship. During one of Alex’s visits to Cincinnati, Kristyn came home tired from work. He recommended she take a bath while he grilled some steaks. When she felt more like herself again, he suggested she take a peek in “The Blue Room.” The couple was slowly making Kristyn’s new Ohio home their own by painting each room, “The Blue Room” was the only one they had finished. It only had a bed in it, and Kristyn was hoping the surprise behind the door was brand new furniture. What she found instead was a room filled with lit candles, rose petals and furniture from other parts of the house. Alex got down on one knee and proposed. Despite the lack of new furniture, Kristyn couldn’t have been happier and said “YES!” Alex had arranged for Kristyn to have Friday off from work to travel to Atlanta and share their happy news with both families. The families threw a big surprise party in their honor.

The question now was where to have the wedding? Kristyn lived in Ohio, and both sets of parents lived in Georgia. The one thing Alex and Kristyn knew was that they did not want to have an outdoor wedding. Until… Kristyn’s parents called her and said, “We’re standing in the most beautiful place in the world” from the lawn of Legacy Pointe at Lake Lanier Islands Resort. When Kristyn and Alex arrived in town to take a look at it, they agreed – it was perfect. “Mom became the heart and soul of the wedding planning,” recalls Kristyn. “With me in Cincinnati, Mom took the reins. She absolutely fell in love with Celita and the entire staff at Lake Lanier Islands Resort.” Every time Kristyn came to Georgia sporadically over the course of the next year, she would make a trip out to the resort. If she had a thought pop into her head, she would send a question – sometimes lists of questions – to Celita. Celita answered every one. “Planning was actually easy and fun,” explains Kristyn. “And in the end, our wedding blew me away. It was absolutely the best day ever. It was so much more than I ever could have envisioned as a little girl.” The bride’s favorite moment came when she and Alex stood with their best man and maid of honor (Kristyn’s little sister and very best friend), and Alex whispered, “Look.” Everything stopped for just a moment, as Kristyn and Alex looked out over the room. “We saw our wonderful families and all of our great friends,” remembers Kristyn. “We could feel the love.”
